The widget helps you understand your progress status from your home screen at a glance, without having to open the app.

Adding the widget

Firstly make sure you have the ExcellGrowth app installed.

You can then quickly add the widget to your iPhone / iPad home screen by long-pressing the app icon.

On Mac, control-click on the screen, select Edit Widgets, search for "ExcellGrowth" or scroll down and select the small (square) or medium (rectangular) widget.

Interpreting the widget

The widget has 4 metrics:

  • Journal streak (how many days you've been journalling without a break)

  • Journal last 7d (% of days in the last week where you logged a journal entry)

  • Goals on-track (% of goals with progress% >= elapsed time%)

  • Habits on-track (% of habits with completion rate >= target over the last week)

Journal streak and last 7d

The journal is a key component of the app. If journal entries aren't made, there will be no record of:

  • Habit progress

  • Work on goals (although goal progress can be updated separately in the goals tab)

  • Insights on what is going well, what is difficult and what could/should be done differently

  • Mood

So, a low/zero journal streak & last 7d completion is of major concern. Focusing on these metrics by regular journalling should be the key priority.

What the colours mean:

  • Journal streak: 0 is red, anything above 0 is green

  • Journal last 7d: Less than 3 days/week (43%) is red, less than 5 days/week (71%) is amber and above that is green.

Goals and habits on-track

This metric summarises, for all the active goals & habits you're working on, the proportion that are progressing to plan (i.e. elapsed time% is equal or less than progress%).

In a perfect world, goals and habits on-track would be 100%. In reality, it's likely to be less.

For example, if you have 5 active goals (the recommended maximum) it may well be that 1 or 2 are off track (because your approach needs modifying, you haven't been able to put the work in, or there's an obstacle).

If you haven't been into to update the app (including updating the goal progress%) then the widget will gradually reflect this.

When you see goals or habits on-track go from green to amber to red, you know it's time to go into the app, ensure it's updated, and if there are still problem issues figure out how to deal with them.

What the colours mean:

  • Less than 50% goals or habits on-track is red, less than 90% is amber and above that is green.
